The Civil Engineering Department at Nirma University successfully conducted a 10-day Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) on “Lean Practices in Civil Engineering”. The program was designed to educate academicians and industry professionals on methods to improve quality and productivity in construction projects.
Program Highlights
Participants: The program successfully trained 23 academicians.
Curriculum Delivery: Training included expert lectures, the Lean Academic Conclave, interactive simulation games, site visits, and participant presentations.
Core Technical Topics: Sessions focused on waste identification (MURA, MURI, MUDA), 5S workplace organization, the Last Planner System (LPS), Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and construction productivity metrics.
Technology Integration: Participants explored the synergy between Lean workflows, Building Information Modeling (BIM), VisiLean software simulations, and AI-enabled process optimization.

The department extends its gratitude to the coordinator, Dr. Parul R. Patel, as well as the distinguished speakers from esteemed organizations, including: IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, NIT Warangal, and Nirma University, ILCE, AFCONS Infrastructure, Godrej Construction, URC Construction, Hitech, and VisiLean.
The program concluded with an examination, participant feedback, and a valedictory session.
