Our team from the Civil Engineering Department, Nirma University secured the First Position at POROCON 2025 – National Concrete Championship on Pervious Concrete, held at CEPT University and organized by CEPT University and Adani Cement on 26th April 2025.

POROCON challenged participants to design and cast pervious concrete with high compressive strength, flexural strength, and permeability – and among 11 outstanding finalists, our team stood out with technical excellence and innovation!

A team of students from the Civil Engineering Department, Nirma University has secured Second Place in the 23rd National Award Competition – 2024 for “Best Innovative Structural Steel Design,” organized by the Institute for Steel Development and Growth (INSDAG), Kolkata.

✨ About the Competition
INSDAG, an initiative under the MINISTRY OF STEEL, Government of India (GoI), conducts this prestigious competition annually, bringing together Civil Engineering students from across the country, including IITs, NITs, and other premier engineering institutes. This year, 61 teams participated, competing across two rigorous stages, culminating in a final round with 16 shortlisted teams.

💡 The Challenge
The competition’s theme for this year was “Steel Intensive Concourse over Railway Track & Platform.” Our students dedicated six months to conceptualizing, designing, modeling, simulating, estimating, and preparing detailed drawings—both manually and through advanced software—to create a structurally efficient and sustainable steel-intensive concourse design.

Selection of Two B.Tech Sem-VI Students (Team Sustainable BioTex) for SSIP 2.0 and Funding

Two of our B.Tech Civil Engineering (Semester-VI) students, Nensi Sachapara (22BCL090) and Hasti Trivedi (22BCL106), have been selected for the Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP Gujarat) 2.0 program by the Government of Gujarat!

Their innovative project, “NanaTex: Banana Fibre (Pseudostem Fibre) Geotextile for Sustainable Soil Solution,” has been awarded a funding grant of ₹1,50,000/- under this prestigious initiative.

Guided by the mentors, Dr. Naman Kantesaria and Dr. Hasan M Rangwala, this project aims to explore the potential of banana fiber-based geotextiles in sustainable geotechnical applications.

A special thanks to Rashmika Shah and the Center for Entrepreneurship for their constant support and guidance.

Replacing cement with Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) to significantly cut carbon emissions in the construction sector.
Promoting plant-based diets (veganism & vegetarianism) as a transformative solution for reducing environmental impact.

Manan secured his place among 400 global delegates after a rigorous three-stage selection process, which included CV submission, a video interview, and final shortlisting. This conference brought together future leaders, industry experts, and distinguished speakers, including:

This year’s theme, “Generational Transitions: Passing the Torch, Paving the Way,” focused on leadership, innovation, and sustainability. Manan also participated in the Impact Challenge, where delegates presented project ideas to tackle pressing global issues. Manan and his team and I ranked among the top 5 out of 40+ teams in the case study on Mitigating Floods in Assam. They had the incredible opportunity to pitch their solution in front of Jorge Mariano Rossi, Co-founder and Owner of Clurb, making it a truly enriching experience.

Manan Patel represented Gujarat at the Young Leaders Dialogue during the National Youth Festival 2025 in New Delhi

Manan Patel, a third-year Civil Engineering student at Nirma University, recently represented Gujarat at the Young Leaders Dialogue during the National Youth Festival 2025 in New Delhi on 11th and 12th January. Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the event brought together 3,000 young changemakers from across the country, selected through a highly competitive process.

Manan earned his place through a rigorous five-round selection process:
• Quiz Round – Shortlisted from 83,000 participants.
• Essay Writing – 817 students advanced.
• Idea Presentation – 250 participants selected.
• Personal Interview – 50 finalists.
• Final Selection – 45 youth, including Manan, represented Gujarat.

At the event, he presented his ideas on “Enhancing Productivity in Agriculture,” suggesting practical interventions to address key challenges in the sector. His insights received valuable feedback from experts, including Sarita Ahlawat, who guided participants in refining their proposals.

The dialogue also provided a platform to interact with leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Dharmendra Pradhan, and industry figures like Anand Mahindra.

Second runners up in the event CONQUER-IT at AAKAR-Annual Civil Engineering Technical Festival organized by IIT Bombay

Congratulations!!! We are very proud to announce that the team of Shivam Akbari (21MCLC01), Jeet Machchhoya (21BCL065), and Om Meta (21BCL070) from Civil Engineering Department, Nirma University finished as second runners up in the event CONQUER-IT at AAKAR-Annual Civil Engineering Technical Festival organized by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. CONQUER-IT is a technical event that tested student’s ability to design and cast pervious concrete with high compressive and flexural strength. This event consisted of three rounds of competition, and the top 19 teams were selected for the final round.

We would also like to extend a special thanks to Dr Tejas Joshi, who guided the competition and helped our students achieve this milestone.

Once again, congratulations to all the students who participated in this event and represented our department so well. Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and we wish you all the best for your future endeavours!

Semi-Finalist at Solar Decathlon India

Group of students with names, Hetavi Patel (19BCL076), Foram Shah (19BCL118), Bhavya Shah (19BCL117), Kruti Chauhan (20BCL502), Jhanvi Dholakiya (20BCL505), Vraj Chaudhary (20BCL131) participated in the National level event “Solar Decathlon India” held at Indian Institute for Human Settlement and the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy in month of September 2022 and were the semi finalist in the event.

2nd Runner up at UltraTech Sparkling Star Competition

UltraTech Cement Ltd. has organized an “UltraTech Sparkling Star competition ” for undergraduate  Students for civil engineering branch. The event has 2 Rounds of competition Preliminary and Final. The preliminary round has organized during 19th and 20th  February 2020 at L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad and final round was scheduled on 6th March 2020. Top 40 teams were selected for the first round. Out of 40 teams, 10 teams were entered into the final round.  From Civil engineering department, one team was selected for the final round. In the final round team of Angel Ratnani, Vedanshi Shah and Vishvajeet Rao secured 3rd  Place and become “Ultra Tech Sparkling Star” with Rs. 9,000/- Prize and medals.
